RESIDENCY IN ZOOLOGICAL MEDICINE AVIAN SPECIALTY

The exotic pet medicine department of the teaching veterinary hospital (Chuv-Ac) and the teaching wildlife veterinary hospital (Chuv-Fs) of Maisons-Alfort offer a position for a doctor in veterinary medicine as a zoological medicine avian specialty resident starting March 2024, the 18th. This 3,5-year training program is structured according to the guidelines of, and approved by, the ECZM (Avian). The resident will perform clinical activity first for 6 months at the Chuv-Fs and then for 3 years in the exotic pet medicine department at the Chuv-A. During this training program, the resident will be prepared to get the credentials to sit the exam in order to become a European diplomate in zoological medicine specialty avian (DipECZM-Avian) He/she will be involved in the care of wild and exotic animals presented in consultation, for surgery and for hospitalization. He/she will also be involved in clinical teaching to students and interns. External rotations in avian pathology (and other optional upon resident will) are also part of the program. The resident will also take part in clinical research studies. The program is under supervision mainly of an ECZM-Avian Diplomate but also of European diplomates in other specialties (Zoological Medicine – Small mammals, Neurology, Cardiology, Diagnostic imaging, Surgery, Internal medicine, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Reproduction, Emergency and critical care).

Required profile: A European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education –approved DVM (or equivalent veterinary degree completed with a valid license to work in France) is mandatory. Candidates should have successfully completed a one-year rotating internship program or at least two years of experience in an exotic animal practice with a dedicated area for avian medicine. They should show interest for clinical research and teaching as well as good teamwork ability. They should be French speaking and be able to efficiently communicate with patient’s owners.
